Double warp beams

Double Warp Beams

We offer double warp beams for the Ideal and Standard loom. The 'second' or double beam can be attached to loom without drilling or cutting. The double warp beam kit consists of the second warp beam, a second back beam, the attaching components and needed parts including the ratchet, pawl, 2 lease sticks, a tie up bar and 24 beaming sticks. Since no work is needed to modify the loom, the beam can be attached in a few minutes.

Double warp beams

Sectional Beams

Sectional Beams are available for Ideal and Standard Looms. The sectional kit consists of boards attached to warp beam with provision for metal hoops to separate the beam into 1 inch sections. (If you want 2 inch sections, remove every other hoop.)

The Glimakra sectional beam can be used without making long cords for each section. Included are three tie-on bar holders which are trapezoid shaped wooden parts which you place between two sections. Place the tie-on bar in the notches and tie the bar to the beam so it will stay in place as you start. Tie the warp ends to this bar and wind the length you want onto each section. When you are nearly finished weaving your warp, the tie-on bar will be uncovered. At this time you put the ordinary beam cords on your tie-on bar and attach them to the warp beam to weave your last yard of warp.

The Sectional boards are attached to the warp beam with wood screws so some minor attachment work is needed. The attachment of the sectional kit makes the circumference of the beam about 31 inches. If you do sectional warping you may also want to consider the next item, the Tension Box.

Tension Box

The Glimakra tension box attaches to the back beam for warping. The box includes a counter so that you can keep track of the amount wound on. Pictured in photo above.

It also includes a lease cross maker, an adjustable tensioning dowel to make the tension you need on the threads, a reed to spread the warp as it enters the tension box, a reed to spread the warp to the correct width to put it on the beam and an extension to get the second reed closer to the beam. It attaches to the back beam and is easy to move along as you fill each section. It is a professional, functional tension box.

Fly shuttles

Fly Shuttles

The fly shuttle attachment is available for the Glimakra Standard models. The fly shuttle attachment gives you a new bottom to your beater which has a shuttle race. It also has the 'houses' or 'garages' at each end to catch and to throw the shuttle back and forth. By pulling the central handle and cords the fly shuttle is moved side to side. This makes it easier to weave wide warp widths and to increase weaving speed. The fly shuttle kit includes the new beater bottom, the boxes, cords and fly shuttle.

Stadig

Stadig. The loom stabilizer.

Stadig are a new Glimakra invention. The Stadig will 'steady' and quiet a loom as well as take some of the 'shock' of the beat out of your arms and into the loom. If your loom 'walks' across the floor when you weave, Stadig will stop it. The energy of the beat is 'absorbed' in the rockers on the Stadig and the extra large pads with a layer of rubber underneath keep it from walking. The large pads also spread out the weight of the loom and help prevent indentations in carpet. If you weave upstairs, the Stadig also help to quiet the loom so persons below are not annoyed. Stadig can be adapted to other makes of looms.

Shaft and reedholders

Shaft and Reed Holders and Warp Stick Catchers

In the photo on the left you see three styles of shaft holders. Shaft holders do just that; they hold up the shafts while you are working at the loom threading or tying cords. Shaft holders come in pairs for 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 shafts.
Below is a picture of the long style reed and lease stick holder. As you see this style holds the reed in a good position for sleying while also providing a hold on the lease sticks.

Its cousin, the regular style reed holder, (on the right) will also hold the reed in good position for your sleying but does not incorporate the lease stick holders.

The warp stick catcher comes as a pair, one for each side of the loom. They mount on the lower cross member of the loom at the rear and as you weave and beaming sticks are exposed and loosened, they fall into the catcher. You can also use them as a place to store warp sticks or other long items.

Lace pillow

Lace Pillows

Glimakra has a very nice lace pillow as well as bobbins and lace bobbin winder adaptors. The lace pillow is about 20 inches by 22 inches and the roller is about 10 inches wide. The roller is locked in position with a simple to use wedge. This is a very nice lace pillow.

Tapestry tools

Tapestry Tools

In addition to the Freja Tapestry loom (below), Glimakra produces a very nice and hefty tapestry beater fork, shown here. The Freja Tapestry frame has the ability to tighten warp threads with the bolts and wing nuts shown at the top of the photo. It comes with two bars for propping the frame up at a slight angle. The wooden tapestry bobbins are also available.

Beam Covers and various Sticks

These last couple of items are not very photogenic so words will have to serve. The beam cover is an aluminum cover shaped at a gentle right angle to fit over the beams on a drawloom. It serves to make a smooth and slick surface for the warp or draw cords to slide over.

The sticks available are called warping or beaming sticks and lease sticks. The warping or beaming sticks are in bundles of 24 and can be cut to any length you need up to 63 inches. They are smooth and cut from unblemished wood. The lease sticks are available in up to 63 inch lengths and are nicely tapered at each edge for ease of use.
